Of Cruel Words

Lisp.

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia.

I'm sure we can all think of a few more. Well, I can't at the moment, but if I do I'll add them. Why are they cruel? Well one would think that lisp is obvious. Perhaps hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, slightly less so.

Lisp. Lithp. "Why are you talking like that?" "I have a lithp". It just doesn't really work. Every time a person with a lisp has to explain that they have a lisp, they have to say a word with an 's' in. Whoever thought of that was an evil genius. They could probably have taken over the world with a mind like that. Likewise hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia.

It has 35 letters. 35 letters and 15 syllables. 35 letters, 15 syllables in a word meaning fear of long words. There is something very very wrong with that picture. VERY wrong. "Oh, you have a medical condition, what is it?" "A fear of long words" "I don't believe you, what's the medical word?" "Hippopotomonstro.. AAGGHHHH *runs away screaming and crying*" Yeah, that's a great word.

Of Ballet Skirts and Words

So today, I was at ballet class as I usually am on a Wednesday. I also have a tap lesson. I was wearing big baggy tracksuit bottoms during my tap class but they got too hot and so I took them off. Without them, even though I was wearing a leotard and ballet tights, I felt naked. Strange right? And then I put my ballet skirt on, and it was fine. I would just like to take a moment to explain that my ballet skirt is flimsy black translucent material. Not much of a cover, yet it really helps psychologically. Is that just me being weird? Ah well.

To go on to the other subject in my title: words. I'm thinking that I'll end up regularly talking about all sorts of different words. Today my words are going to be guilt, and subpoena. Guilt. It's a heavy word. Almost guilty in and of itself. It's kind of like onomatopoeia, but not quite. Part of my list of persuasive techniques I was revising for English Lit went :

  • rhetorical question
  • guilt
  • shock the reader

I was drumming my fingers on the table in a steady beat. I was reciting one syllable per beat and I realised that the word guilt sounded heavier, more important than any of the others. Try it. Please prove me right.

Subpoena. I don't know what it means, but I've seen it or heard it somewhere. My phone recognises it, you know. I think I may go and look it up. Subpoena = to summon. Not what would immediately come to mind. I'll have to remember that.

Till next time.

Of Blogs

So, today I was sent a link to my friend's blog. I can't remember what it's called though. Never mind. It was actually really cool, so I though 'ooh, I know, I'll make a blog'. Unfortunately, I am one of those people who never ever have anything interesting to say. Yeah, I know, that sucks.

I just realised why this blog is gonna be so crap! It's coz I don't think that my opinions are interesting enough for people to want to read. Well, that much is true. It's kinda like Twitter, isn't it. You have to think that what you're saying is worth someone taking the time to read. This isn't, so I would give up if I were you. Really.

And, see. I have run out of things to say/write about. Wow, I am such an interesting person.

Methinks I won't send my friends a link to this 'cause there is no point whatsoever. Seeing as most of them will be bored by whatever I can think up after this, I'll just leave it for random people to stumble over if anyone actually reads blogs. Have fun.
